Though the title is quite a mouthful, Tubbypaws’ Happy Blog of Illustration and Character Design is worth a visit. It’s full of cute illustrations with very silly descriptions, papercraft projects you can download, and other fun stuff.

Earlier this summer, Walker Books released two illustrated books in a new “Moshi Moshi Kawaii” series, in which you search for the bunny-pill characters, kind of like the Where’s Waldo? books. However, these characters aren’t new; they are originally from Japanese company Mindwave and were released in 2002 as “Usa Colle.” The company sold a limited selection of Usa Colle stationery goods and toys at the time, though they’re pretty hard to find these days.
The old site at UsaColle.com is a bit dated now and is mostly in Japanese, but it has some neat things to check out. There are images of all the original characters, short Flash animations to watch, pretty desktop wallpapers and printables to download, and even a cute little game to play.
Fruity Cuties is a site offering “cute comedy with kawaii fruit cartoons,” with corny jokes and cute images of your favorite fruits, plus the occasional vegetable thrown in for good measure. Check out the cartoons, buy a t-shirt, or download a free wallpaper for your desktop.
Lo and behold, there’s a full Choco’Miss web site — all in French — with recipes, cute wallpapers and games, as well as a shop with stationery and sweet treats to buy.
J’adore le chocolat!
Readymech offers a small, but wonderfully designed selection of printable paper craft toys. Most of them are of strange creatures, but there are people as well, like the Japanese girl shown.
Origami Papers is a small selection of printable origami-style papers that can be used for making your own folded paper creations. There’s also an active origami community on the site, an origami instruction database, and related photos from Flickr.
Paper Crafts Maniacs is a Japanese site offering free downloads of printable papercrafts, featuring teddy bears and sushi. Just print, cut out, and fold to make your own paper toy.
Japanese company Fancy Fukuya specializes in super sweet animal characters, like the bunny-food Usa Dango, or the hamster series of Moru Moru San. Check out cute illustrations and photos of the characters and character goods, especially on the Usa Dango blog.
Update (12/15/12): The page I originally linked to is gone, but it looks like there’s a new page about Usa Dango, including photos of plush toys of the characters. I couldn’t find the hamster character, but check out this squirrel character named Chimarisu!
